How can I help my child? |
SOARSOAR is Read On's support group for children struggling with dyslexia, dysgraphia and OWL LD. The group's activities - designed in consultation with a child psychologist who specializes in working with children with dyslexia - are designed to build the children's confidence through fun activities and through community outreach projects. What is SOAR?The first gathering of Soar kids was for an ice cream social and water balloon festival in Ella Bailey Park. SOAR has teamed with the Pike Place Market Food Bank to help raise donations for homeless families and the elderly. The children worked with NBBJ Architects to make greeting cards that are available at several local retailers and through the Read On website. The proceeds from the sale of the cards will benefit the food bank. After the holidays the kids will tour the food bank and organize a food drive. The Soar kids learned to make their own apple pies thanks to the generous and patient guidance of the folks at the Seattle Pie Company. Soar kids also planted native trees and shrubs at Discovery Park on Green Seattle Day. Soar's next adventure will be to visit a local glass blowing studio.
